It's a question that many homeowners will face: carpet or hardwood stairs? Both options have their pros and cons, and it really boils down to preference. Pet owners will have an easier time cleaning hardwood stairs. Parents may prefer carpet stairs so the edges aren't as pronounced.

Sometimes, you won't get a choice. You'll move into a new apartment and home and you'll have one or the other. Redoing the stairs may seem like a tall task - and it can be - but it doesn't always have to be. Stacy Davis wanted to ditch her carpet stairs in favor of hardwood. She found a manageable method that wasn't incredibly costly nor was it overwhelmingly difficult

Of course, the first step is to strip the carpet, which Davis admits was the most difficult step.
"There were a million staples," she says on Hometalk.

After a bit of clean up, Davis added stair caps. Then came the risers in a beautiful red oak color.
